As an artist, I find that sometimes ideas arrived fairly fully formed. And sometimes, a scrap of an idea may tumble around in my brain for literally years before it finally coalesces into something that can begin to be turned into an artistic creation. Such was the process with this piece – a vague idea of wild horses racing across the prairie to the setting sun (inspired by a sculptor friend’s piece of five running horses) went through a long time of cloudiness, and then another period of design missteps before I finally arrived at this design – of which I am extraordinarily proud.
