I had long been intrigued by the idea of trying to represent delicate firefly or dragonfly wings in glass, but it was another idea that had some false starts and bad designs before I landed on this concept. “Fireflies” was the first piece I envisioned where the custom stand was an integral part of the design… and my blacksmith looked at me a bit skeptically when I first presented it to him. Luckily he’s always game for any challenge I throw at him, and he rose to meet this one as he has so many others. I tried new techniques on this – it was an experiment in so many ways, and successful in pretty much all of them!
