The motivation behind creating this piece was twofold. One, I was looking for a way to start creating bigger pieces. Because I work with a kiln, I am limited by the size of the kiln and the shelves that go inside it. The idea of creating multi-piece sculptures allowed me to expand beyond the limitations of shelf size. And two, I was coming off a time of some pretty intense introspection and self-work; I was inspired to create art that felt more personal, and also felt very peaceful, as I had gone through a lot of tumultuous emotions during that time. And while this feels a little bit like choosing a favorite child, I can definitely say this is one of my favorite pieces I have created.
