RAINDROPS ON A HIDDEN POND

I do have a love of geometric shapes, and while I have worked hard over the years to relax my style and move away from strong geometry, circles definitely still show up from time to time. I’d had the idea of a piece based around the ripples that are created when a something hits the surface of a pond. A single stone tossed will create ripples that keep moving outward, but multiple things – like raindrops – will create ripples that start overlapping and competing with each other. As I worked on this piece, a whole image came to mind of a very gray, drippy-wet day, and a pond that is tucked out of sight, surrounded by willows whose branches hang down into the water, where a few raindrops start the ripples moving until eventually, the surface is alive with raindrops sending new concentric ripples in every direction.
