A few years ago, I did a solo show where each piece was inspired by a haiku poem. This one was: half of the minnows – within this sunlit shallow – are not really there. One of the interesting things I realized is that haiku, as a Japanese art form, does not always translate to English to match the 5/7/5 syllabic pattern. This particular one was written in English, so it does follow the form. Always finding water inspirational, I was enchanted at this image of minnows and sunlight reflections being interchangeable when one gazed down into the river. The base supporting this piece was hammered steel, reflecting the rocky river bed below the waters.
