SPRING THAW

Our winters are long at 7000’ elevation in the Colorado mountains, and while I do hike and snowshoe in the winter, the coming of spring is something I anxiously await each year. Depending on the year, I will often be out hiking the trails before they are fully melted – sometimes trekking over snow, and sometimes splashing through seasonal streams. I love watching the creeks and rivers coming to life, slowing gaining power as the higher elevation snow melts and adds to their downriver flow. There is something so pristine and beautiful about that icy cold, early spring water.
